A lower electricity bill. Help with rent arrears. Food support nearby. Different costs have different routes—and you do not need to know the program names to start. Pick the cost on your mind below to explore the kinds of help available, then narrow the starting points with a few broad questions. Programs and local agencies decide eligibility and availability.
If you need help today, use 211 Ontario for local services, the Feed Ontario food bank finder for member food banks, or Ontario Emergency Assistance for a crisis involving essentials such as food or housing. If electricity or gas service may be disconnected, contact your utility and a LEAP intake agency promptly. These links are available without answering questions or joining Romii. In a life-threatening emergency, call 911.

Choose a relevant starting point
Romii Money Finder uses a few broad answers to show up to three potential starting points. It does not ask for a SIN, exact income, bank details or documents. After the questions, join Romii's early-user waitlist to view your personalized result. Newsletter emails are optional. Official assistance links remain public, and joining Romii does not improve program eligibility.
Rent or housing pressure
For a crisis involving food or housing, Ontario Emergency Assistance may be a starting point for a person living in Ontario who lacks enough money for essentials. It is temporary financial support, not a loan from Romii or a guaranteed payment. Current Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program recipients are excluded from this route; ask your caseworker about the support available through your existing program. Check Ontario's application page for current conditions and timing.
For Toronto renters behind on rent or needing a rental deposit, the Toronto Rent Bank offers a grant subject to its income and other conditions. It is for eligible people living in or moving to Toronto, not every Ontario municipality. The City directs current OW or ODSP recipients to their caseworker about its Housing Stabilization Fund. Rent Bank says applications typically need at least five to seven business days; urgent cases may be expedited when documents are ready. If housing is at risk sooner, also contact 211 for local help now.
Electricity or gas bills
The Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP) may provide an ongoing credit on an electricity bill for a qualifying utility or individually metered customer. Household size and combined after-tax income matter. This is not a cash payment. The Ontario Energy Board estimates an eligibility decision about four to six weeks after receiving and reviewing a complete application and signed consents, and an approved credit appearing on a bill in about six to eight weeks. Do not rely on it to stop a disconnection today.
If you are behind on an electricity or natural gas bill and may face disconnection, LEAP is a different route. An intake agency checks eligibility and any approved emergency grant is paid directly to the utility, not to you as a cheque. Contact the utility and intake agency promptly; neither a grant nor uninterrupted service is guaranteed by a quiz result.
Lost work income, food and tax help
Employment Insurance regular benefits may matter if you lost work through no fault of your own and are able and available to work but cannot find a job. Service Canada has further eligibility rules. Apply as soon as you stop working; it warns that waiting more than four weeks after your last day may mean losing benefits. EI is an income-benefit application, not emergency cash.
For food, Feed Ontario's finder locates its member food banks by area. Check a local service's hours and intake directly. If none is nearby, 211 Ontario can help find another local food program. 211 is a referral service, not a benefit award; its phone and text help are available around the clock, while live-chat hours differ.
If filing taxes is a barrier, CRA's free tax clinics offer volunteer preparation for people with modest income and a simple tax situation, subject to each clinic's availability and scope. The service helps complete a return; it is not an immediate grant. Use CRA's clinic directory to find an available local or virtual option.
What a result means
“May be relevant” means only that your broad answers point toward an official program. It does not mean you qualify, that funding is available, or that support will arrive by a particular day. Follow the program's own application or intake instructions and give personal documents only through its official channel. If none of the routes fits or your answer is uncertain, start with 211 Ontario and describe the immediate need; you can use these public links whether or not you try the quiz.
