An approved Fair Pass brings the adult PRESTO fare down from $3.30 to $2.10 per paid TTC trip. What could that mean for your usual travel? Try the savings sliders below, then check the City’s listed eligibility rules. Only the City can approve the discount.

If you are 20 to 64, live in the City of Toronto and have a PRESTO card number, the TTC Fair Pass may reduce your adult fare if you meet the City's financial rules. The City makes the eligibility decision. Check the Fair Pass application and rules before gathering documents; if you are younger or older, use TTC fare types to find the fare route for your age.

Which financial route applies?

The City lists Ontario Works, Ontario Emergency Assistance and Ontario Disability Support Program recipients as meeting the financial criterion. You still need to meet the other Fair Pass requirements and complete the City's process. If you receive Toronto's Child Care Fee Subsidy, the City still assesses income against its family-size table; the subsidy alone is not a pass.

For other residents, the City says annual after-tax family income must be strictly below its published limit. Its table currently lists:

Census-family sizeAnnual net family income must be below
1$22,691
2$32,090
3$39,302
4$45,383
5$50,739
6$55,582
7$60,035
8$64,181
9$68,074
10$71,756

“Below” means an income equal to the listed amount does not meet that table's stated cutoff. Do not count everyone at the same address automatically: the City uses the Statistics Canada census-family definition, which can differ from a household. Its page also uses different age wording in its general income explanation and table footnote. If your family includes people of different ages, the family grouping or income count is unclear, or there are more than 10 people, ask the City to check your case rather than treating this table as a final answer.

What does Fair Pass save?

As checked, an adult PRESTO TTC fare is $3.30 and the Fair Pass fare is $2.10: a $1.20 difference per paid trip. You need the discount programmed on your PRESTO card to pay the Fair Pass fare. It is a fare reduction, not a cash payment.

Since September 1, 2026, TTC monthly fare capping is separate from Fair Pass eligibility. Adult and Fair Pass riders using an eligible payment method ride at no further fare after 47 paid trips in one calendar month. A new paid trip is the first tap starting a two-hour transfer period; extra taps within that period do not add paid trips. Keep using the same card or device and payment method because the TTC counts them separately. Fair Pass's current 47-trip monthly fare cap is $98.70.

For illustration, 20 paid TTC trips at today's listed fares cost $66 at the adult PRESTO fare or $42 with an active Fair Pass: a $24 difference. This assumes all 20 trips are charged as separate paid trips on the same eligible card or device, before any other fare arrangement. Your actual trips and fare type may differ. The TTC has announced a 40-paid-trip cap for 2027, but we have not verified its exact start date or 2027 fares; use 47 for a current-month check.

Apply through the City, not through Romii

Start on the City's Fair Pass page. Have your PRESTO card number and the City's requested income or program documents ready. The City describes the documents it needs for family members and provides an application and follow-up route. If you need a PRESTO card, check that requirement before applying. The discount is added only after the City's review; this page and its quiz cannot activate it.

If you already have a Fair Pass, check the City's renewal instructions instead of assuming you must make a new application. If your result is uncertain, take the specific unresolved item—family definition, income count, age, residence or PRESTO status—to the City. You can still use TTC's ordinary fare and discount guide while resolving it.
