# Made a mistake on your EI report? What to do next

If you notice an incorrect answer after submitting an Employment Insurance (EI) report, notify Service Canada as soon as possible. Sign in to My Service Canada Account (MSCA). On your dashboard, choose Employment Insurance benefits, then Report a mistake. Service Canada lists this route for errors on a submitted EI report or other claim form. Its guidance on mistakes also says to contact it promptly.

Gather the details before you report it

It helps to have these details ready:

  • The affected reporting period
  • The answer you entered
  • The accurate information
  • A supporting record, such as a pay statement if the mistake concerns earnings

If you submitted your report online or by phone and need to check its details, MSCA says you can use Employment Insurance benefits and View my payments. That report-detail view is unavailable for paper reports. Do not change a later report simply to balance out an earlier answer; tell Service Canada about the original mistake instead.

If you cannot use the online route

Use the current EI contact options for individuals. Within Canada or the United States, call 1-800-206-7218 and select 0 to reach an officer. Service Canada lists officer hours as Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm; the service is closed on weekends and public holidays. Its contact page lists other ways to get help, including options for callers outside Canada and the United States.

When you contact Service Canada, explain that a submitted report contains an incorrect answer and identify the affected period. Its contact page says you may need your social insurance number and access code by phone. Use the official channel for those details; do not put them in a public message.

Keep a note of when and how you reported the mistake, and follow any instructions Service Canada gives you. Sending the information does not by itself confirm the report has been corrected. Ask Service Canada how to check the status of your specific case. If your separate question is when a payment appears after a report, see our EI payment guide.
