Your four-digit Employment Insurance (EI) access code is in a shaded area near the top of the benefit statement Service Canada mails after you apply. If you cannot find the statement or code, contact Service Canada for help with your EI claim. Source: Service Canada benefit statement.

Check the statement before trying to report

If you made an EI claim within the last month, Service Canada says you will not receive a new code. Check the statement from that earlier claim and use its code. Keep the code private. You need it and your Social Insurance Number (SIN) to complete an EI report online or by telephone. Sources: benefit statement and EI reporting.

If your statement has not arrived, you have lost it, or the previous code is unavailable, ask Service Canada how to proceed. Do not guess when you will be able to report.

Use the EI help line for a missing code

Within Canada or the United States, call 1-800-206-7218 and select 0 to speak with an EI officer. Service Canada lists officer hours as Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with weekends and statutory holidays closed.

Its contact page also offers an eServiceCanada request for a callback and a way to find a Service Canada office. Check that page for current contact details and the route available to you.

Phone help may ask for your SIN and access code; if the code is what you are missing, explain that to the officer. Never send your SIN or code to Romii; use verified official Service Canada routes. Source: Service Canada EI contact information.

The EI reporting line, 1-800-531-7555, is for submitting reports by phone. It also requires your code and SIN. For a missing code, use the EI help options above rather than treating the reporting line as a code-recovery service. Online reporting likewise requires the code and SIN. If a report appears due soon, tell Service Canada that the missing code is preventing you from reporting and ask for instructions for your claim. Do not assume an extension or a payment date.
